"For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. But if I do the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin that dwells in me." - Romans 7:19-20
She was a longtime public servant. The District Attorney in the county said, "I would have trusted her with my life. When you needed something, she could make it happen."
Vicky White had served enough years to earn full retirement. She had a stellar reputation. Admired by many, she was set for life. Vicky's home was paid for, her staff and colleagues were all set to celebrate her and her long career with a retirement party.
Many saw her as a "mother figure." She even earned employee of the year awards along the course of her correctional officer's career. Yet, we all know how her story tragically ended.
The brutal statements by some across social media have the same common theme, "how could she throw away her whole life, her retirement, everything she'd worked for -- how could she have done it for somebody like Casey White?"
It wasn't Casey White. It wasn't the allure of living a "Bonnie and Clyde" exciting on the run existence. It wasn't for love. And if she could undo it all, she no doubt would.
It had less to do with Casey White, love or lust, but more to do with the empty places within. That became spaces, as in us all, that demons will occupy. Unless we fill them with the Word of God.
I teach what I know to be true and demons take up residence inside the empty places within us and wait. What do they wait for? "An opportune time."
Please don't join in with others in casting stones. Rather, I caution you and and ask you to look inward. Demons are real. Demons are spirits. Demons cannot die and we all have been targeted by them. They come and they go just as Satan did with Jesus when Jesus was in the wilderness.
After tempting Jesus with every conceivable temptation he thought a man could want, Satan left Jesus, until the Bible says, "an opportune time." (Luke 4:13).
Vicky's opportune time was that fateful day, but leading up to that day, many times without doubt, demonic forces came against her sub-conscious mind (her heart). They always do before the take-down. As they do us all.
When she loaded Casey White into that car and left in the rear view mirror her life, that was the opportune time.
As righteous as David was, he had an empty place that was filled by the spirit of adultery. We all know the story. And in one of the most poignant pleas to God, the man after God's own heart pleads with God in Psalm 139:23-24, "Search me, O God, and know my heart (sub-conscious mind), try me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way."
The time has passed for Vicky to make this plea but not for you and me. The two things humans are not designed to contain are pain and empty places. The Adversary takes advantage of both.
When you can, listen to my podcast, "How Satan Takes Down and Takes Out Leaders" and know that an opportune time is being planned for you and me, too.
