The major difference between leaders (natural leaders) and godly leaders (servant leaders) is one word - motivation.
God keeps blessing the work of godly leaders in inexplicable ways. But natural leadership runs a short course. The memory of them is short though while in their position they were a bag of chips and a cold Coke.
What separates the two? Motivation. What is your motive for wanting to lead? People are impressed by a resume, God the heart. And those elevated by God won't even be able to tell you how they got the position, other than by His grace.
Pay attention to others, more importantly to you. What motivates you? Money? Prestige? Notoriety? May I tell you something? I have seen them all, been there myself. These three things - money, prestige and notoriety are fleeting. They don't last and if these are your motivations, neither will you.
Leaders that last and leave lasting impressions are those whose motivation is to please God and serve others. That's it. Successful Leadership 101 for Christ followers - motivations that God blesses
- to please Him in all we do
- to love and serve others
Proud people can't do this. That's why they can scheme and plan against you all they want. But in the end, God blesses Esthers and Davids - not Jezebels and Hamans.
